The Maslow Hierarchy of Needs and How it Can Aid Intentional Manifestation

If you have taken any psychology 101 class, you have likely at least heard about the Maslow hierarchy of needs. Have you ever considered how the Maslow Hierarch of Needs can aid your manifestation because it can.

What is the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs?

The Maslow Hierarchy of Needs is generally depicted as a triangle with the base of this triangle representing the most fundamental needs corresponding to our animal nature and instincts for survival and the top of the triangle corresponding to our self actualization potential and thus to our spiritual aspects and Higher-Self Consciousness. The central idea is that the 5 categories of this triangle correspond to the 5 needs of the human as an animal-spirit hybrid. Furthermore, each category is a need for true fulfillment, each need is hierarchical in that the bottom or base of the triangle must be established to support the higher needs.

While Abraham Maslow is accredited with the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, there have been similar understandings of such a hierarchy including the 7 levels of human consciousness and the chakra system throughout human societies and across various cultures. Hence, although the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs is different from the 7 levels of human consciousness and from the chakra system as the chakras are energetic vortices in the body, the ideas expressed do share many similarities.

The Maslow Hierarchy of Needs is of two parts. First, the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs tells of the 5 basic human needs as established by Abraham Maslow. This means that the self-actualization section of the triangle is also a need. Secondly, the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs is an ordering of what must be established and the order in which they must be established to feel the most fulfilled in life and to have all of our needs met.

Unlike the chakra system and the 7 levels of human consciousness, the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs includes only 5 needs.

What are the Needs Comprising the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs?

The 5 needs comprising the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs include survival/physiological needs, safety and security needs, the need of loving and belonging, the need for self esteem, and the need for the self actualization as the final and highest human need.

Survival/Physiological Needs

Within the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, the survival/physiological need component of the hierarchy includes the needs of your body for survival. Examples of these survival/physiological needs include things without which your body would shut off in time. Examples of this need include food, water, shelter, sleep, air, and clothing appropriate to weather the elements.

Safety and Security

Within the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, the safety and security needs component of the hierarchy includes the needs of your physical safety and security. The expression of meeting this segment of need means that you feel safe and secure that your survival/physiological needs are met and that they will continue to be met. For example, when you trust that you will have access to food and that the food will be safe to eat, you have met a need for your safety and security.

Love and Belonging

Within the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, the need for love and belonging component of the hierarchy includes your need to feel loved and that you belong to something bigger than your self. Ideally, this would be to a group in which you are included and in which you feel loved as you are rather than for who you pretend to be. It is best that this group share similar values to you. Nevertheless, this need may be met by your employer. For example, if you are targeted at work or tend to be scapegoated and bullied, your need for love and belonging is being violated, but once you are in a work environment in which you are included, your need for love and belonging is being honored.

Self Esteem

Within the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, the need-for-self-esteem component of the hierarchy includes your need to be both admired and valued by the group but also to feel capable and worthy of this love within yourself. Once you are a part of a group and feel loved and like you belong, you will naturally feel a need to be a worthy part of this group and to be looked to with a degree of esteem for who you are and for what you contribute. In addition to this, you will need to feel worthy of this love intrapersonally.

Self Actualization

Finally, within the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs, the need for self actualization is the highest component of the hierarchy. This self-actualization need includes your need to be who you authentically are and your need to be expressing your full potential. Humans like to grow, and it is a need that we do so in ways that are authentic to us. An example of meeting this need may be expressing your creativity and getting involved in organizations and movements with which you aligned and to which you feel called. An example of failing to meet this need is staying somewhere where you feel stuck and stagnant rather than learning a new skill or deepening your craftsmanship. The self-actualization component is the most transcendental component of the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs and is thus the component of this conceptualization of needs that is closest to the calling of your soul and in alignment with your spirit.

How Can the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs Aid Your Intentional Manifestation?

The truth is that we are always manifesting. We either manifest with intention or from hand-me-down programming, but we are, in fact, always manifesting.

When it comes to manifesting what we like, using the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs as a tool to gauge where we are at in our wellbeing can be useful. When we are in a state of survival mode, we are in a state in which we feel as if our basic survival needs will not be met. It is important to remember that this survival-mode fear can occur at any level of the hierarchy of needs because a violation of a need puts us in a state of lack which tends to attract more lack to it. Consider reading more about the Law of Attraction to further understand this point. For instance, when we feel our need of love and belonging is violated, we can easily move into a state of fear for our safety and security and thus for our basic, physiological survival because oftentimes we meet our survival needs through the labor of other people, and when we don’t belong to a group, it can be challenging to be provided for at even a basic level of existence.

Using the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs to aid your intentional manifestation journey can provide you with a diagnostic that enables you to be aware when you do notice that you are in a low-vibrational state of what the underlying violation of need is and how you can thus best respond it. Furthermore, the simplicity of the Maslow Hierarchy of needs can be beneficial in helping you to plan your life with your self actualization in mind.

When practicing intentional manifestation, especially with the Law of Attraction in mind, it is important that we maintain a dominant high-vibrational frequency. While low-vibrational moments will occur, it is imperative for our wellbeing that we respond to and process these states instead of allowing them to grow and thus overtake our dominant vibration in the quantum field. With all manifestation, there is a beneficial time lag, so while low-vibrational states are natural and unharmful unless resisted and/or persisted, the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs can help you to better determine the area of your life to which a given moment of low-vibration corresponds and thus enables you to directly address any underlying healing potential with maximum expediency and impact.
